Compatible devices

Your phone is probably ready.

Almost every phone sold since 2019 has an eSIM chip. Here’s the ten-second test, then the full list — including the regional models that quietly don’t.

01
The instant test
Dial four characters and read the screen
Method A — any phone
Dial *#06#

Open the keypad and type it. If a long number labelled EID appears under the IMEI, your phone is eSIM compatible. No EID, no eSIM.

Method B — in Settings
Look for “Add eSIM”

iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM. Android: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. If the option exists, you’re set.

The exceptions
Where it goes wrong, honestly
Phones sold in mainland China and Hong Kong

Regulation and regional SKUs mean many Samsung and Xiaomi units from those markets ship with the eSIM function disabled, even when the model number matches ours.

Carrier-locked handsets

If your phone is locked to a carrier — typically bought on an instalment contract — it may refuse a second profile. Buying it outright almost always means unlocked. Ask your carrier; the answer is free.

Older OS versions

The chip can be there while the software is not. iOS 12.1 minimum, Android 10 or later. A pending system update is sometimes the whole story.

Watches, tablets, hotspots

Cellular iPads, Apple Watch and many 4G hotspots take eSIMs too. Our data plans work in them, but device setup differs — write to us and we’ll walk you through it.

Not compatible?
There’s still a way to travel connected
Borrow a hotspot

Install the eSIM in any compatible device — a travel companion’s spare phone, a pocket router — and share the connection over WiFi.

Ask before you buy

Send us your exact model and where you bought it. We check against the operator database and tell you yes or no before you spend anything.
