What is an eSIM?

Understanding the technology that's changing how we stay connected while traveling.

Physical SIM card

  • Requires a physical plastic card
  • Must visit a store or wait for delivery
  • Swap cards every time you travel
  • Only one carrier at a time
  • Easy to lose or damage

eSIM — the better way

  • Built into your phone — no card needed
  • Instant activation via QR code
  • Keep your home SIM active for calls
  • Switch plans without swapping cards
  • Nothing to lose or break

How does an eSIM work?

An eSIM is a small chip permanently embedded in your phone. Instead of inserting a physical SIM card, you download a mobile plan digitally by scanning a QR code. The process takes under two minutes.

When you purchase a plan on eSIM Agora, we send you a QR code by email. You scan it in your phone settings, the plan downloads, and you're ready. When you arrive at your destination, you switch on the eSIM and you're connected.
